MWSA TO RE-OPEN SEPT 14, 2020
After months of closure due to COVID-19, the Mill Woods Seniors Association is excited to announce that we will reopening our doors to members on Monday, September 14, 2020 (tentatively, if all goes well).
As expected, things are going to look a bit different and it won't quite be business as usual given the current situation. As we move forward, with the guidance from AHS and the City of Edmonton, we will implement new safety procedures, including: mandatory masks when entering MWSA premises, health screening at entry, increased sanitation and hygiene protocols, implementation of special precautions to keep our staff, volunteers, members and instructors safe.
At the first phase of re-opening, the number of programs and capacities will be reduced to maintain physical distancing to keep everyone safe. Members are encouraged to renew their memberships and pre-register for courses online. If you need help or have questions about the process, please reach out to MWSA staff, who have now returned to working at the office.
That being said, we know that there are members with pre-existing health conditions and are considered high-risk individuals, who may not be ready to come back to the Centre just yet. We strongly encourage participants to only return, if and when they feel comfortable to do so. We also advise staying at home if you are feeling sick or have any symptoms of COVID-19.
-UPDATED Aug 7, 2020
July 14, 2020
The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted our day-to-day lives but we hope you are following Alberta Health Services’ directives and keeping safe and healthy. As directed by the City of Edmonton, our Centre was shut down on March 13, 2020. We will keep you posted when the reopening plans are approved.
Although the Centre is closed, MWSA staff have been providing valuable service for the benefit of members, such as the Weekly and Monthly Newsletters giving details about on-line programs and updates on the COVID-19 pandemic. We encourage you to register and benefit from the on-line programs. In addition, home support referral service and outreach programs are also being offered.
Once the Centre reopens, we would be holding our AGM. Article 188.8.131.52 of MWSA Bylaws states as follows:
Regular Members in Good Standing for 60 days prior to an Annual or Special General Meeting are voting Members.
Given the fact that due to the unusual circumstances created by the COVID-19 pandemic, the membership of some members might have expired during the shutdown of the Centre. Therefore, we had contacted Alberta’s Corporate Registry and were advised that the Board of Directors can take a decision to make a one-time exception to the “60 days requirement”. At the Board Meeting on 2020-06-25, the following motion was passed.
“That due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Board of Directors has made a one-time exception to the requirement ‘Regular Members in Good Standing for 60 days prior to an Annual or Special General Meeting are voting Members’. Regular Members with paid-up membership dues on the day of the AGM will be considered voting members, be approved.”
This decision would ensure all paid up members would be eligible to vote at the AGM. Arrangements have been made to accept payment for membership renewals on MWSA’s website, safely and securely through Paypal: https://www.mwsac.ca/membership. We request you to renew your membership online until such time that the Centre is open.
If you have any question/concern, please feel free to email at firstname.lastname@example.org
Take care; stay safe and healthy and we will meet again soon.
